Description
In Circle of Stones by Judith Duerk, the question is asked, “How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you? A place for you to go…a place of women, to help you learn the place of woman…a place where you were nurtured from an ancient flow sustaining you and steadying you as you sought to become yourself.”
Few young women in our societies today, have the opportunity to honour and celebrate the coming of their menses as a rite of passage, a shift in their journey and a taking on of responsibility for her body.
These images tell the story of fertility, the celebration for a new stage of life, a woman’s connection to the moon and its cycles, and in the triple spiral, the understanding that maiden leads to mother which is followed by crone.
The stamp images become an honouring of the spirals turns when during the passage from mother to crone the cycles slow and stop.
Bake, gather, celebrate and honour womanhood in its ever changing phases.
